#InterviewMondays: No-Genre Noni @DjBigBamz

Good day people!! I’ve brought you 2 artiste on #InterviewMondays. Today I’m bringing you one of the finest disc jockeys the world has to offer. At first I just Wanted him to tell the world about himself but I realised it would be so messed up. Messing up is my thing and I can’t have anyone taking that away from me. I present to you The Multi-Genre DJ!
DaNoisyBoi: Welcome to the Show Buddy! What’s the real name of this great DJ we have here?? I only Know you as No-Genre Noni  so tell us.
No-Genre Noni: My real name is Paul Oluwadamilare Adesina. There are more names but you know how it goes. Lol! I’m known as Paul in London and my Family calls me Dami.
DaNoisyBoi: That’s Awesome Dami!! Lol! Why DJing though??
No-Genre Noni: Well I’ve always had an ear for music since I was young. Growing upinn the 90s, music channels such as MTV base, the Box influenced my love for music from urban to Pop. Also coming from a traditional Yoruba Family. I grew up listening to KSA, Ebenezer Obey, Shina Peters, KWAM1, Kollington etc so I always knew about traditional music. Learning music and its concept in school, I developed a passion for music and I began collecting when I returned from schooling in Nigeria.
DaNoisyBoi: What made you start DJing?
No-Genre Noni: I felt the need to make a difference as to how DJing is represented. Anyone can be a DJ to be honest, but it takes uniqueness and passion to be a DJ that is taken seriously. It isn’t just the tracks that make a DJ a DJ in my eyes.
DaNoisyBoi: That’s good to know so how do you keep your skills set up to date as a DJ?
No-Genre Noni: Usually I attend some of my mates’ events and listen to other DJs and how they mix. And because I’m a multi-genre DJ, one has to adapt different techniques in mixing different genres. I’ve never been the type to copy styles of mixing so I had to develop my own unique style.
DaNoisyBoi: Ohkk! So who made you wanna be DJ? Who inspired you to start DJing?
No-Genre Noni: Well, I was encouraged by the likes of Anikin DJ and DJ Wavy who got me to purchase my decks. Before I purchased them, all three of us used virtual DJ and used to rock house parties and local drink ups. So it was inevitable that DJing was to be my forte.
DaNoisyBoi: that’s great. How tight is the competition for you in UK?
No-Genre Noni: I’m not one to be in competition with others especially as DJing is a hobby I take seriously. There are many UK DJs out there doing their thing in the scene, some started from the bottom, some have key contacts and some have a large fan base and it’s good to see that there are others who share the passion for music like I have.
DaNoisyBoi: I like that! What’s your say on Afro Beats taking over the worlds Music??
No-Genre Noni: I think it’s a big step for Africa and Africans in other countries in the world. Afro beats has been around for generations but in this particular generation major steps have been taken to showcase Africa to the world in form of music. Various Afro beat artists are popping up left, right and centre to show the world that it’s not only Western music that should be acknowledged.
DaNoisyBoi: I agree with you. What’s your take on Ghanaian and Nigerian music as it stands?
No-Genre Noni: Well! Both Nigerian and Ghanaian music has developed dramatically. Different sub-genres have evolved, from the influence of Western & Caribbean, which I think it’s phenomenal. Afro beat artists in this generation therefore need to adapt to the time a create unique sounds or similar. I think that is what steam is rolling Afro beats now.
DaNoisyBoi: Yeah! So when did it start for you at Genesis radio?
No-Genre Noni: It started last year February as I was hooked up by Anikin DJ who knew I needed more exposure as a DJ. But before it could be made official, I needed to find a host for the show as I couldn't host the show and do live mixing at the same time. Once that hurdle was overcome, the NCA Show launched in March 2012.
DaNoisyBoi: So what was it before Genesis??
No-Genre Noni: I wasn't on radio before Genesis. I was dealing with my University education and since I've completed my degree, there has been more time to focus on the NCA Show.
DaNoisyBoi: Ohkk! That’s dope! I noticed they call you NO-GENRE DJ. Why that??
No-Genre Noni: Yeah, I recently changed my Twitter name to No Genre because I don't have a specific genre which I specialise in. I play various genres from Afro beats, House, 90s, Old School, Dancehall etc so I  just wanted to give another name for people to distinguish me by.
DaNoisyBoi: Ohkk! So before the NCA show was there any other show you would say was the best show of all time??
No-Genre Noni: No I haven't hosted any show prior to the NCA Show. I'm very new on the hosting scene well co-hosting.
DaNoisyBoi: Ohkk! Newbie. Do you have any partners on the NCA show?
No-Genre Noni: Yes I do! I call him the life of the show….Ronzee K! He's the co-host of the NCA Show who you listen to talking on the show. We have some banter on the show which involves me sometimes or our listeners.
DaNoisyBoi: Is there anything special on the NCA show, like a special on your show?
No-Genre Noni: Yes once in a while we interview artists live on the day of the show. We don't only play Nigerian or Ghanaian music, we try to bring other African countries into the equation e.g. Kenya, Sierra Leone, South Africa etc. I think that is what makes our show special
DaNoisyBoi: That’s nice! Any advice for people who take you as a role model?
No-Genre Noni: Yeah! Lemme just say this to them out there Make sure you surround yourself with positive people and choose your friends wisely. Work hard and sharpen yourself whether you're an upcoming DJ or artist. There’s only one person that can stop you and that is yourself.
DaNoisyBoi: That’s encouraging and I’m sure they gonna take it as an advice. Final words for people out there?
No-Genre Noni: Stay positive, focussed, work hard and remember where you came from. Listen to the NCA Show every Monday at 7pm (GMT) on
genesisradio.co.uk where I mix Afro beats regularly. Get involved!
Ohkk. That was the only No-Genre Noni and we here at www.DaNoisyBoi.blogspot.com are glad we could have you here. Thanks for your time. It has been #InterviewMondays people.
