#InterviewMondays: Session with JoPapi(@Jo_papi) cc @dejatune

Last week on #InterviewMondays we had the Co-CEO of Wild Bunch Entertainment (W.B.E). Let’s say it was fun because there were a lot of reads on that post. This week we have in out presences another great person. Let’s get it started.
DaNoisyBoi: Welcome to #InterviewMondays. Today we have with us Jopapi. You’re welcome to the Show Man. Is Jopapi your real name?
Jopapi: *Laughs* Not at all, but the first was coined out from my names which are JONES OSAMUYIMEN and sometimes I go by the Pseudo J.O but anytime JO or Jopapi does it. A whole lot of stories though comes behind the papi, and I guess that would a discussion for another day right? Ha-ha!
DaNoisyBoi: Yeah! Another day it is. Let’s get up-close and personal with you. Where are you from? Jopapi: I am from Nigeria with Ghanaian descent, the southern region of the most populous black nation, Edo state to be precise.
DaNoisyBoi: that’s dope! Lemme ask you something else. All the showbiz industries you could have joined why Music?
Jopapi: Humbled. Being raised in a house where music and books were my only companion, I’d say the passion for music has been from my early childhood but would sound so Cliché in nit? But it is true; I have always wondered how people could just put words together to affect our emotions, thoughts and et cetera. I always wanted to try and be able to do this too. Pass a message. Change the thoughts of people towards musicians and things the little way I can and here I am.
DaNoisyBoi: Ohkk!! So it is a music impact thing. I like that. So when did you start music??
Jopapi: I recorded my very first song in 2009 am sure a lot never got to hear it and it still is one shelved in my archives. A song never to be played again...*Chuckles in embarrassment* but talking music generally that would be years earlier so early I can’t remember. I think as early as eight or nine years I was already playing drums and singing hymns for my church.
DaNoisyBoi: That’s Amazing! Who are your role models in the Game?
Jopapi: I admire a few, none in particular. I am very observant so I just try to study everyone, their good and bad side. A good spectator makes you a better player right? But to mention a couple I pay close attention to home and abroad would include Jay Z, Manifest, Vector, M.I, Femi Kuti, Akon and so on. Just to mention a few thought. That’s the short listed.
DaNoisyBoi: that’s great! To make a point before we continue. This is #InterviewMondays and we have Jopapi in the hot seat. It’s another Noisyboi Initiative.  Back to Jopapi, What would you call your genre of music?
Jopapi: I usually rap and sing but rap more. I wouldn’t call what I do Hip-hop. I’ll just term it Making Good Music. So if you ever get to see a genre called MGM (Making Good Music) in future. I made that. Hahaha
DaNoisyBoi: Lol! I like that.
Jopapi: *Big Grin*
DaNoisyBoi: Where do you get your inspiration to write your lyrics?
Jopapi:  my environment and past life or should I say living inspires me. I could make music and rap about anything but I would simply say my inspiration comes from God. He made everything. He gave us brains to be creative, all thanks to him.
DaNoisyBoi: Yeah! He did. Is u with a label or Management? What next can one expect from you? Is something new under construction?
Jopapi: My new song IGWE (King) drops in 2-3 weeks so that’s something to look up to. A combo of hi-life and hip-hop. Something rare, special and unique. Am not saying it has never been done but not done often maybe. Currently pushing my stuff myself, funding and everything from my pocket. I’ve had a few label offers but nothing solid at the moment but I do hope the next time I have a chit-chat with you the case should be different. *Smiles* It’s something to look out for people.
DaNoisyBoi: It must be hard pushing your own music but Big of you. Where do you see your Music in some years? Do you Plan on signing your music to a label soon??
Jopapi: The optimist in me would say my music should be everywhere in the coming years probably be a huge symbol of Africa but the industry is filled with more downs and ups so I would say where ever my music would be in some years solely depends on God. I would love to sign to a label real soon, get a major record deal but till a label who has the same visions that I have and is ready to go the limit for us to achieve I wouldn’t be signing to any .
DaNoisyBoi: what Advice do you have for fellow artiste?
Jopapi: There’s been lots and lots of artiste and label drama over the years, I do know they say experience is the best teacher but we should look and learn from the mistakes of others, so my advice would be for my fellow artiste to watch closely before signing a deal because some are like jail terms and also transform a lamb to a beast and so on, so I would say whatever Good vision and ambitions you have towards the situation of music in Africa, you should let the industry pressurize you into doing something else, you make the industry, the industry never makes you. To add also the fans are the most important, keep them close. On that note I want to say a big thanks to everyone supporting the brand, a big shouts to a so- called Deji (@dejatune). He’s been supportive since he got in touch with my music and a whole lot of others I sincerely appreciate.
DaNoisyBoi: Ohkk! Any advices for me before you leave? Lol!
Jopapi: Hahaa! You’re the man, but one thing I can say is littler seeds become Mighty tress, so can little dreams become big things. Keep doing what you do sir and God will do his for you.
DaNoisyBoi: Amen to that! It was fun having this interview with you Jopapi. Thanks for the time you shared with us here. Check him out on Twitter @Jo_papi. He definitely follows back.
